Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.
